While the anticipation at what might be announced was enough to whip the tech blogosphere up into a frenzy ahead of the event, we’ve now seen all Cupertino has to offer at its media event in San Francisco. But in case you missed any of it, here’s everything that was announced during the event.
iOS 7 and iTunes Radio
First off Apple announced that it had 200 million iOS devices running iOS 7 just five days after launch, a figure that now stands at 64 percent today.
Next, Tim Cook, CEO of Apple, revealed that the iTunes App Store now has more than 1 million apps, and that it had seen more than 60 billion downloads to date. He also noted that the iTunes Radio service had streamed more than 1 billion songs to its 20 million users.
OS X Mavericks
Perhaps more excitingly for Mac owners, Apple revealed that its upgrade to OS X 10.9 Mavericks will start today and that it will be free to all users, regardless of which version is being updated.
New 13 and 15-inch Retina MacBook Pro
The first of the big product announcements was the new 13-inch and 15-inch Retina MacBook Pro models, which will begin shipping from today, priced at $1,299 and $1,999 respectively.
The new 15-inch model ships with a fourth-gen quad-core CPU, 2GB RAM and a Geforce GT 750m graphics card. The claimed battery life is up to eight hours.
Along with equipping the new MacBook Pro models with Retina displays, Apple’s hardware division also unveiled a radically redesigned cylindrical Mac Pro which you’ll be able to order before the end of the year, with prices starting from $2,999.
Inside the revamped casing, Apple is offering storage options of up to 1TB of flash storage, four USB 3.0 ports, six Thunderbolt 2 ports, Bluetooth 4.0 and one HDMI v 1.4 port.
iLife for iOS and Mac
Apple also announced that its iLife software for iOS and Mac were getting a host of new features from today and are free with any new device.
Similarly, iPhoto, iMovie and Garageband will also be revamped for iOS and OS X Mavericks.
Keeping with the software updates, next up on the agenda was an update for its iWork productivity suite, which like iLife apps, will now be free with new device purchases.
Getting to the portable devices, Apple announced that it had sold more than 170 million iPads since they were first launched three and a half years ago.
More excitingly, Phil Schiller, vice president of marketing at Apple, unveiled an all new iPad Air device.
The iPad Air will arrive with a 9.7-inch Retina display and will weigh just one pound. It also has an A7 chip, 5-megapixel iSight camera and a claimed 10-hour battery life.
Available in silver/white and gray/black the iPad Air will replace the top of the range iPad and will cost $499 for the 16GB WiFi only model and $629 for the WiFi + cellular model.
The iPad Air will start shipping on November 1 in more than 40 countries.
Alongside the fourth generation of iPads, Apple also revealed updates for its iPad mini which include giving the new model a 7.9-inch Retina display with a 2048 x 1536 screen resolution.
The 16GB WiFi-only model will be priced at $399 while the cellular data-equipped version will cost $529.
The original iPad mini will still be available and has been reduced to $299 for the 16GB WiFi-only model.
